Compliance — what each label means
Vehicle lighting is governed by two separate compliance regimes. Most "compliant" listings cover only one. We verify both — and label every product honestly.
Regime 1 — Legal to SELL
Plain English: proves the product won't jam your vehicle's electronics, radio or CAN bus. Says nothing about whether you can drive with it on a public road.
Legal-format: Australian RCM compliance for sale, supported by ECE R10 electromagnetic-compatibility type-approval. EMC compliance is a precondition for lawful supply in Australia but does not, of itself, authorise on-road use.
Regime 2 — Legal to USE on-road
Plain English: proves the beam shape, intensity and dazzle limits are safe for other road users. Without this, the light is off-road only — no matter what the listing says.
Legal-format: photometric type-approval under ECE Regulation 149 (or, for legacy configurations, ECE Regulation 112). Each approval number is verified by ODMplus against the issuing authority's public register before the product is listed.
Being legal to sell is not the same as being legal to use on a public road. We verify both, certificate by certificate.
✅ Road-Legal Driving Light
Plain English
Verified for use while you're driving on Australian public roads. Installation rules still apply.
Legal-format statement
Product carries ECE R149 or R112 photometric type-approval, verified by ODMplus against the issuing authority's register. Conforms to the road-illumination regime for the configuration shown on the product page. Lawful on-road use is subject to correct installation, aiming, and the operating rules of the relevant Australian road authority.
⚠ Off-Road / Work Light Only
Plain English
EMC-certified — safe for your vehicle's electronics — but no road photometric approval. Must be switched off when driving on public roads.
Legal-format statement
Product carries ECE R10 electromagnetic-compatibility type-approval but holds no ECE R149 / R112 road-illumination approval. Use is restricted to off-road, private-property and stationary work-light applications. Operating this product while driving on a public road is prohibited; penalties apply under the relevant Australian road-rules regulation.
